#80 Kishkindha-Birth place of Hanumanji

Kishkindha is the kingdom of the Vanara King Sugriva, the younger brother of Vali, in the Sanskrit epic Ramayana. According to the historical account of India, this was the kingdom where Sugriva ruled with the assistance of his friend, Hanuman. This kingdom is identified to be the regions around the Tungabhadra river near Hampi in present-day Bellary district, Karnataka. The mountain near the river known as Rishimukha, where Sugriva lived with Hanuman during his exile, bears the same name.

किष्किन्धा संस्कृत महाकाव्य रामायण में वली के छोटे भाई वानर राजा सुग्रीव का राज्य है। भारत के ऐतिहासिक वृत्तांत के अनुसार, यह वह राज्य था जहाँ सुग्रीव ने अपने मित्र हनुमान की सहायता से शासन किया था। यह राज्य वर्तमान बेल्लारी जिले, कर्नाटक में हम्पी के पास तुंगभद्रा नदी के आसपास के क्षेत्रों के रूप में पहचाना जाता है। ऋष्यमुख के नाम से जानी जाने वाली नदी के पास का पर्वत, जहाँ सुग्रीव अपने वनवास के दौरान हनुमान के साथ रहते थे, उसी नाम का पालन करते हैं।

During the Treta Yuga, the whole region was within the dense Dandaka Forest, which extended from the Vindhya range to the South Indian peninsula. Thus, this kingdom was considered to be that of the Vanaras. During the Dwapara Yuga, the Pandava Sahadeva was said to visit this kingdom, as per the epic Mahabharata, during his southern military campaign to collect tribute for Yudhishthira's Rajasuya sacrifice.

Sahadeva, the Pandava general, and younger brother of Pandava king Yudhishthira, came to southern regions to collect tribute for the Rajasuya sacrifice of the king.

Sahadeva reduced to subjection King Vatadhipa. He then defeated the Pulindas and then marched southward. He then fought for one whole day with the King of Pandrya. The long-armed hero having vanquished that monarch marched further to the south.
