In 1591 Qutb Shahi ruler Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah established Hyderabad to extend the capital beyond the fortified Golconda. In 1687 the city was annexed by the Mughals. In 1724 Mughal governor Nizam Asaf Jah I declared his sovereignty and founded the Asaf Jahi dynasty, also known as the Nizams.

1591 में कुतुब शाही शासक मुहम्मद कुली कुतुब शाह ने हैदराबाद को किलेबंद गोलकुंडा से आगे बढ़ाने के लिए स्थापित किया। 1687 में यह शहर मुगलों द्वारा ध्वस्त कर दिया गया था। 1724 में मुगल गवर्नर निज़ाम आसफ जाह ने अपनी संप्रभुता की घोषणा की और आसफ जाही वंश की स्थापना की, जिसे निज़ाम के नाम से भी जाना जाता है।
